"When I arrived in La Ferté Macé 40 years ago, history an geography were of great importance and interest to me. For me, ancient times begin when populations started to exchange people and goods. La Ferté Macé didn't escape this rule. Located on the west-east line of a wooded zone, hard to reach and not shown to its advantage, yet became a strategic passing point through the valley. From late ancient times to the height of the middle ages, it was a desert here, term often still used for several communes.
If you would like to talk about the celto-gaulois people, the action of the retreated hermits in our wooded solitudes and the evolution of the town from a motte and bailey and courtyard to an administrative village, don't hesitate ! I will enjoy telling you all the ins and outs ! "
